Tanzabend 4 – identity is nonsense anyway
Aspects of identity are central to Thikwa’s latest collaboration with choreographers Juli Reinartz and Martin Nachbar.
Technological identities are being addressed in Juli Reinartz’ choreography. As we are body-machines, nothing about us is natural. What role does technology play: to perfect or differentiate our bodies? Maybe we can be the kind of technology for each other, that is required to equip our bodies. In this process it is possible to investigate what affinity means: collectivity beyond familiarity. Because we do not know each other, we do not even know ourselves. What do we actually need? … really really soft sci-fi. Martin Nachbar’s choreography focuses on dreams and imagined identities. Who do I want to be: someone real, another character or even a new species? Searching for identities with disco balls and costumes – not to escape from reality but as a way of extension, to re-think, re-feel or re-budge yourself. Potentially a new political practice.
